| Members of the lead team Queens Uni (Canada)
discuss the days events at days end with members of Desert Rose team (who
are coming 3rd). There is about 10kms separating the 2 teams. Aurora is
"unofficially" in second position by about 1 km. |
| Aurora using the last rays of the setting
sun to get as much charge into their batteries as possible. Notice the
add-on solar panels at the top of the picture to maximise the charge in
the short time available to them. |
| Queensland Uni's Sunshark team performing
"the ritual" at the end of the day's racing. At 17:00 hours all racing
stops and each team settles down for the night where they have stopped.
For most cars this means camping by the side of the road. One of the first
things they do is tilt the solar array towards the setting sun in order
to keep charging the batteries for as long as possible. |

working on their car. All teams spend at least a few hours each evening
repairing, and adjusting things on the car and going over the days progress
and tomorrows plans. |

| Team members from the French car Helios
spray water on the solar array to help keep it cool. They are also removing
small leaves which have fallen onto it from a nearby tree. |
| A team member from car KIT (Japan) sprays
water on the solar array during KIT's manadatory half hour stop at Dunmarra
Media Stop. This is a common ritual at the Media Stops. Water cools the
arrays increasing its efficiency. |

| One of the hazards that the solar cars
have to put up with - a road train. This 3 car road train is the norm.
Some road trains have 4 cars. |
